Have you heard about XP Mode in Windoze 7? Well, they say the operating system (Windows 7) can do it, but it is doubtful your hardware can. Essentially, if your machine can run things like Microsoft’s Virtual PC or Parallels for Mac or even VirtualBox, odds are your pc can run XP Mode. The early indicators say the majority of the apps written for XP will run without having to install XP mode. That being said, there are several machines that don’t even have the option. A few examples are the older Pentium M processors, a laptop with an AMD processor and even original Cor2duo chips, specifically the ‘T’ and ‘P’ series. Most Pentium HTs and Celerons are also not capable. On the AMD side, virtually everything in the workstation market prior to the Athlon 64 3000+ back wont work either. The key words to look for are “Intel VT-x” or “Intel Virtualization Technology” on Intel’s processor spec sheets, and “AMD-V” on AMD’s sheets. Check Intel‘s site and AMD’s site for more.
